You, Your Family, Your Money

Habits I learned about Rich and Successful people

Pssst! Have you been struggling in life only to get nowhere whilst the rich are getting richer or have you been working all your life, to get by and you still can’t make ends meets.

Have you been wondering how the wealthy have gotten to where they are? Some of us have researched a few how tos or taken part in a couple of get rich schemes. Others have spent quite a bit of their money on lottery tickets and are still overwhelmed and frustrated with just getting by.

Well, you will be pleased to know that I have observed a few successful icons and have found out a few interesting habits that they live by and how they are able to maintain and acquire their success.

And perhaps, you too may be able to practice these habits and take a step forward in the right direction.

They have multiple source of Income.

Yes! I said it. They have more than one way to earning their income. They do not depend on one little job to pay their bills. They have other income coming in ,not from one but several other avenues.

Let’s look at any of our famous celebrities; Beyonce, Drake, Oprah, they all have one thing in common -they all have more than one way of earning their money even if they are already fifthly rich!

So let’s examine our situation for a hot minute, most of us have a 9-5 job which is suppose to pay taxes to the gov’t, pay all our bills and groceries. Guess what, this one pay check still can’t help us save for our children’s education nor take a vacation.

if you think that your 9-5 job will make you rich and successful, (unless you’re the owner of a huge corporation) think again! My friends, I say to you follow the leader and find another avenue to get additional money rolling in.

For starters, have a look at ways to earn passive income and I can almost guarantee you that you will be one step closer to where you want to be.

In Chris Guillbeau’s book, he outlined 100 Side Hustles: Unexpected Ideas for Making Extra Money Without Quitting your day job. I know that we can all do with more than one side hustles to get us on our way to becoming successful.

They are not fashionable.

Some rich and successful people hardly buy the latest fashion, or the most expensive fashion out there. Most of the time, they’re wearing a plain outfit and can’t seemed to care less.

In fact, they do not look wealthy at all. Why? Because they use their money to invest into other places, they want to avoid attention, or they do not need to be approved based on their appearance. They just need to be productive.

If these billionaires choose not to spend their money on fashionable accessories for personal reasons, why are we hitting the stores every weekend to buy the most expensive name brand items out there? or why do we drive the most expensive car when a cheaper car will do the job just fine?

Billionaires like Warren Buffet choose to live a frugal lifestyle even though his Net worth is more than the net worth of a few of us combined.

Believe it or not, if we ditch this expensive habits and find ways to live frugality, we will definitely end up further up to where we want to be.

They spend more time networking than watching TV and on social media

Rich and successful people are always on the move. They are always in meetings networking, thinking and talking about the next big idea.

They tend to have very little time to follow what is happening on TV. They’re out golfing, wining and dining with other powerful people who they can help them build and grow.

For them, meeting other like minded people are more productive and valuable than wasting time watching someone else on TV. They want to be the ones on TV, not watching someone else on TV.

So if the rich, successful and wealthy are always on the move, networking, working on new ideas, why do we, the average Joes spends hours on social media and expect to join the successful line?

My friends, I say to you- get off the couch, get out there, network, look into new ideas, work on living the life that you want to live.

They Invest their hard earned money and take risk

Who here have heard of a successful person who acquire their wealth by keeping their cash money in a saving account? Or saving a certain percentage every month?

Noe don’t get me wrong, these are all the right things to do, but the last time I checked, the interest rate on these accounts were an embarrassment.

The rich and successful invest their money into investments and take risk in real estate, stocks, new businesses, partnership etc. They make their money grow and work for them.

Doing this will provides a stream of income for you and it will grow your income faster than a regular saving accounts.

They prepare Wills and leave Inheritances

The successful and wealthy believes in Wills and ensure that their love ones are well off.

Before their bundle of joy is able to say his or her first words, they have been already added to the will, a trust fund is already created for them, and their education fund is already set up.

In other words, they are continuing the cycle of wealth into another generation. That way, the cycle of wealth generating continues.

Meanwhile, a few of us are busy purchasing the latest fashion for our kids, spending the last dime on the now and not thinking about the next generation.

Is it any wonder our next generation has to start from scratch, struggling once again to make ends meet and thus unable to not make a difference?

My friends, lets break the cycle right now. Let’s work hard, live the life that we want and share the wealth with our next generation.

They are always learning, reading and pursuing new skills

One of the habits of wealthy and successful is that they are continuously reading and learning new skills. They read for self improvement, they read to gain knowledge, they read to develop a new skills.

As a leader, one would need to have knowledge in a diverse range of area to take on the challenge of running a business. Skills such as leadership and managing a team skills or effective communication is needed.

And to achieve this, they are more than willing to engage in continuous reading or enroll in some sort of course which will help them get just that.

Let’s look at one of my personal favorite- Warren Buffet. This very, very successful man spends about 80% of his time reading and mentioned that he “reads and think” and suggests that any one who wants to be successful should do the same.

And he is not the only one, Bill gates, Mark Cuban, Oprah and I’m only beginning to mention names.

My point here is, reading about a topic or a career that you are passionate about will increase your knowledge, helps create new ideas, new skills, new expertise will only help in you becoming successful.

Accessing a wide variety of books can easily be done on eBooks.com, Amazon kindle or simple visit your local library.

They spend time with their family

Although, the rich and successful are busy with their businesses, they involve their family and take time off to spend time with them.

It could be that this is one of the perks of being rich and having your own business or it could be that they are afford to take time off when they own nor a bag filled with debt.

Yes I know, Life is hectic and so there is very little time for family, but family should be the center of your life. Spending qualify time with them is worth it and it gives you a sense of purpose for wanting to succeed.

To get an idea of a few activities that you can spend with them, please feel free to have a look at these activities to get a few ideas.

They too live on a monthly budget

Budgeting has proven to be an effective tool if anyone is in the process of trying to save money, pay a bill or accomplish a goal.

And guess what, even the wealthy live on a budget too. Being a business person, one has to have the knowledge of cash flow, profit, expenses etc.

In order to maintain a healthy cash flow keeping expenses at a minimum is neccessary. Some have financial advisors who keeps does this part for them.

Regardless, there is a stipulated amount that they are allow themselves to spend.

So setting a realistic budget and sticking to it is nor only required in the financial game but mandatory.

They are early risers

Successful people maximize their time in every way that they can. They wake up early to get ahead of the game and the competitors.

They get up early to begin work, to exercise, to jog, to read etc. For them time is money and success begins with maximizing time.

Waking up early reduces stress, instills productivity, reduces mental illness and most importantly lead to success.

Mark Wahlberg, Richard Branson, Steve Jobs, Michelle Obama all made it their duty to wake up early to begin their day.

They do not partake in Get Rich Schemes.

Successful people are smart and visionary and do not believe in get rich schemes. They are strategic planners that will analyze any idea before investing into it.

Successful people are aware that success involves time, dedication and effort. They tend to know when an idea is a get rich scheme from a mile away.

If you have ever watch any episode of Dragon’s den, you will notice that the investors on the show are extremely picky in which businesses they choose to invest in.

In the book written by Dorian Jones, he provided insights on everything you need to know about get rich schemes: why most are stay poor scams which might be beneficial for your success.

In conclusion, these habits have worked for the rich and wealthy and is continuing to work for them. What if we decide to adopt some of these habits, no doubt we might just be on your way to success.

So there you have it, a few success secrets. Let me know if you have come across any others.
