Activities to keep kids occupied during the Covid -19 pandemic

Hey Mama- Are you way over your head trying to figure out how to keep your kids entertained during the Covid 19 pandemic and enjoy their summer break?

Let’s face it- our kids have a completely different mindset than us- Their attention span is way different from ours!  My 10-year-old can’t seem to keep still for more than five minutes and so I have to be creative in ways to keep him entertained especially since he can’t visit his friends and other family members.

I have accumulated a list of simple and fun activities that you can do to keep your kids entertained whilst quarantine and still enjoying the summer vacation.

Netflix party

Throwing a Netflix party is the easiest party to plan for your little one or your teen. What’s great about this is that it still allows your child to socialize with their friends and other family members but from distance.

So grab your jumbo size popcorn, chip and pop, install Netflix party, create a party and share with other! As long as your kids are having fun, that’s all that they care about.

Go hiking and biking

Another fun filled and budget friendly activity that the entire family can partake in is hitting a trail with your bikes to enjoy a hiking trip.

To make it even more  fun, pack a bag with some food and snack and enjoy your day. Hiking and biking is a great way for parents to bond with their kids and at the same time get up and personal with nature.

Video Games /Games night

I know, I Know! Video games is one topic that most parents want to avoid.

But let’s face it! It’s summer, and kids are one step away from loosing their minds from all these social distancing , wearing masks and not to mention not seeing their friends.

Sometimes we just have to give in especially in these times. Engaging in a kids or family friendly video games allows kids to play virtually with their friends and other family members. There are a huge variety of games that kids of all ages can partake in and some are educational too.

Backyard barbecue

I have to say that this one is more of my favs. Raising up in the island, nothing brought family together like a good barbecue, some music and some games such as cards, dominoes etc.

So, grab your grill, favorite meat, music, eating utensils and games and have a blast in your backyard. If your kids are younger, be sure to have some water balloons or perhaps some bubbles. No doubt your kids will it!

Backyard camping

Backyard camping is an absolute must in the summer time. It provides an opportunity for you and your kids to rely only on minimal necessities, take a break from technologies, enjoy some fresh air and most importantly spend quality time with family.

However, ensure that you have a good tent, flashlight, repellent, blankets, marshmallows and a small barbecue grill if you do not feel comfortable with a fire pit.

In addition, ensure that you have some good stories to tell and hope that the weather will cooperate. From there, seat back and relax.

Virtual trips and tours

The pandemic has now transformed the way in which we carry on in our daily lives.People are now coming up with creative ways to keep their business going and money in their pockets.

Family and their kids can now explore various tours and trips from the comfort of their living room.

Places such as the Zoo, the museum Art gallery etc. now arranges virtual tours. Some of these tours consist of high definition that it feels like the actual thing.

You child will feel as if they are at the zoo itself. So  mama, get busy exploring virtual tours that are offered in your local area and your kids will not be disappointed.

Karaoke night

Who needs to go out to Karaoke when you can have Karaoke right at home along with a few games. Simply grab a Karaoke machine some snacks and let them get their groove on.

Backyard pool party

Who doesn’t like to relax in a pool, basketing in the sunshine with a cool drink in their hands. I know my kids too! If your kids are looking to get all wet, then an outdoor backyard pool is the way to go.

It doesn’t have to cost a fortune; you can simply get one of the cheaper ones such as this one.

Whilst you’re at it, you can make your party even more fun with a couple of water balloons to have your little ones burn up some of that energy.

For your teenager, they will definitely enjoy themselves with a pool float where they can relax in the pool at summer. So, grab your bathing suit and start splashing.

Family Basketball / Soccer game

Do you have a basketball ring with a basketball or a soccer ball that has been collecting dust for decades. If not, head online to Amazon and order one  of these  and a basketball ring and be sure to get it in time to use all summer long.

Your kids may not be able to play at the local basketball or soccer court but as long as you have a back or front yard and family, what else do you need right? Now is the perfect time for your kids to work up a sweat and burn off some energy.
